Meet our Buyer, Jules Ozolins
At Howards, we take the quality of all our products very seriously – and garbage bins are no exception! And while it’s true that bins have the dirtiest job in the kitchen and around the house, selecting one that combines good looks and practicality with high functionality is still important. In fact, it’s vital to good hygiene in and around your home.
We asked Jules Ozolins, one of Howard’s top buyers, to dish the dirt on the garbage bins that could just change the way you look at waste disposal forever.
When it comes to bins, do you get what you pay for?
I’m afraid so. Cheap and cheerful bins will let you down in the long term because they’re made with poor quality materials that can rust easily and break. Basically, they’re not very robust, the operating mechanisms and / or lids are faulty. Cheap bins are just not built to last. Like most things, you’re better off spending a bit more initially and then saving your money in the long term – not to mention your patience!
Why is it important to have a good quality bin in your kitchen?
Your bin has to withstand the rigours of daily use. Did you know that, in any one day the kitchen bin can be opened and closed 20-30 times and emptied at least once. Only a good quality bin can cope with this demand over an extended period of time.
What are some of the qualities a good bin should have?
Well, at the very least a quality bin must be made from durable, long-lasting materials. It should also include an inner bucket to prevent spills and make removing rubbish easier. And most importantly, the moving parts need to be made from high quality steel.
Tell us about the new EKO bin.
We’re really excited to be launching this range at Howards. The EKO bins are a premium bin range made from the highest quality materials – so you’re guaranteed superior strength and durability from your bin. And they look great too!
What are some of the benefits of EKO ownership?
They’re made from smudge-proof brushed stainless steel. They have a soft-close lid and a flat back for easy placement against a wall. Plus a removable inner bucket and a built-in plastic bag (so no ugly plastic bags on show). You’ll also get a 3-year warranty.
Does the bin come in different sizes to accommodate different spaces?
Yes. The Round Pedal bins come in 4 sizes – 6L, 10L, 18L and 30L. The large sizes are perfect for the kitchen and the small bins are ideal for the home office or bathroom.
We also have the very sleek 46L Rectangular Recycling bin. This bin contains two inner buckets – 1 x 28L and 1 x18L. It’s a great recycling solution for the kitchen.
And there’s also the top of the line, 35L Sensor bin. Just wave your hand over the top and the lid pops open – quick and easy, no juggling or dropping of kitchen waste.
Compared to cheaper bins, what’s the general lifespan of an EKO bin?
The EKO bins have a 3-year warranty which covers any manufacturing faults. We expect that under normal use the EKO bins would easily exceed this period of time.
Any tips on cleaning and caring for your EKO?
The removable inner bucket makes cleaning a breeze. All you’ll need is warm, soapy water for the inside and a quick wipe with a damp cloth on the outside.
So if you’re looking for a waste disposal system that not only looks good but handles daily wear and tear with ease, head down to Howards for an EKO bin.
